Along with quality patient care services provided at the hospital, we at Mercy reach out to our citizens and neighbors through a variety of community health and wellness programs and through sponsorship of rural health care clinics in area communities. Primary care clinics in the rural communities of, Cherryvale and Howard, provide basic health services to citizens in need of care but distanced from full-service medical facilities. In addition, through community health fairs, special health awareness campaigns and wellness programs, Mercy brings charitable and low-cost service to the community. Such services include:

  • Community Health Fairs. The annual health fair is conducted in August in Independence. Free and low-cost screenings and health-related informational booths are provided for those attending. For more information, call 620-332-3248.

  • Stephen Ministry, where listening is the key component. The program pairs trained volunteers with individuals in the community who are in need of a friend for a one-on-one, completely confidential companion-type relationship.   • Support Groups, many support groups are available for your needs, visit out the Classes & Programs section of this web site for information on these groups.

  • Community Education courses are offered for health care professionals and community members. To see a complete list of courses provided, please visit the Classes & Programs section of this web site.

  • MercyKids Immunization Clinic, Mercy offers immunization for children through the MercyKids clinic. We provide immunizations for all children age 6 weeks thru 18 years regardless of insurance status. Clinic is now taking place at 900 W Myrtle, Suite 105 on Wednesdays from 3:00pm-6:00pm. Call 332-3221 for an appointment.

  • Pastoral Care is offered for patients, visitors and employees of Mercy. There is always someone there to talk to; someone who will listen.

  • Mercy Regional Maternal and Infant Clinic (M&I), provides charitable and low-cost prenatal and infant services to low-income mothers and children. The M&I clinic is open every Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 620-332-3279.

  • Summer Lunch, sponsored by Mercy Hospital and the Montgomery County Extension Office. This is a free summer lunch program offered to all children age 18 and younger. The program includes a daily nutritional meal and education program. For more information, call 620-332-3254 or 620-331-2690.

  • Courtesy Transportation is provided for both in-town and out-of-town residents who do not have a means of transportation for physician and hospital visits. To request a ride, call 620-332-3221.

  • Auxiliary Membership. Join a volunteer organization composed of many community residents providing a wide array of hospital service, including snack bar / gift shop operation; courier service; Lifeline emergency response system operation; and transportation services for Mercy outpatients.

  • Reach for Recovery is a program that provides information and support for women, with a personal concern for breast cancer, through volunteer visitation. For more information call 620-332-3212.

  • Reiki, the healing touch, is a powerful but gentle means of providing access to the unlimited energy inside us. click the link for more information.
