Physician Assistant joins Mercy’s Urgent Care Center

Derek Wilson, PA-C, certified physician assistant, has joined the Mercy Physician Group and will begin work Monday in Mercy’s Urgent Care Center, located within the physician clinic, 800 W. Laurel, Independence.

Wilson resides in Parsons and is a 1998 graduate of Fort Hays State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology Education. Wilson received a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2006 from Wichita State University.

He has practiced as a physician assistant for the past three years in Parsons, and is a former Cherryvale school teacher and coach.

Wilson will join Carlos Venegas, PA-C, in the Urgent Care Center. The center provides after hours care for minor emergencies, such as earaches and ear infections, colds and flu, strep throat, bronchitis, viruses, minor lacerations, insect bites, rashes, headaches and nausea. The service is open Monday through Friday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. More information on Wilson’s practice or the urgent care service may be obtained by calling 620-332-3280.
