Thanks to grant funding received via
the Mercy Caritas program, Mercy Home Care in both Independence and
Fort Scott have recently added new technology that allows us to
expand our services to home health patients.
The new Well@Home
“telehealth” system allows for monitoring of patients between home
visits through the use of in-home equipment that monitors critical
body functions, including blood pressure, heart rate, blood-oxygen
levels, temperature, respiration rates, blood sugar levels and even
body weight. The in-home system also conducts electrocardiogram (ECG)
tests, and the equipment is remotely connected to the computer
system used by Mercy Home Care nurses, so readings from the devices
are immediately transmitted and available for review locally.

“For
someone with limited mobility, even a trip to the doctor’s office
can be difficult,” explained Ronda Howerter, Mercy Home Care
Director in Independence. “The daily monitoring ensures we are
keeping an eye on our patients at all times.”
